3 Ways To Minimize Lip Lines

If you are a smoker or have sun damage on your face, you may have lines around your lips. Depending on the severity of these lines, there are different treatment options you should consider. Two of these options are done by a cosmetic surgeon, and the other treatments are things you can try at home to save money

Botox

Botox is a toxin, so most cosmetic surgeons only use it in small doses at a time. It works by plumping your lips, which makes them appear fuller and fades the lines around them. The doctor will inject the Botox into your lips with a fine needle. It is a quick procedure and relatively painless. These injections are not permanent, however, and will have to be repeated. How often this is depends on the doctor, and how severe the lines are around your lips. Botox does not have side effects, such as swelling and redness, and you will likely see the results instantly.

Fillers

Using fillers is another option to treat lip lines. This procedure will add volume to your lips to soften the lines, as well as mitigate any tissue loss. Like Botox, it is not a permanent solution and will have to be repeated. In most cases, you will not suffer any downtime after having this procedure done. The doctor may use fat cells that are harvested from your body as the filler. He or she may also use hyaluronic acid, collagen, man made polymer, and microscopic plastic beads. In some cases, the doctor will first numb your skin, and then use a needle to inject the chosen filler under your skin.

Natural at-Home Treatments

If you do not have it in your budget to get Botox or fillers, there are at home treatments you can use. However, it does take longer to see the results. You can use grape seed extract to reduce the lines. This can be purchased at most health food stores, and comes in a liquid form. Place some on your finger, and massage it onto your lips before you go to bed at night.  The grape seed is an antioxidant that can restore the elasticity to the lip lines.

There are also facial exercises you can do to minimize the lip lines. Look in the mirror and say cheese as if you are getting your picture taken. Hold the position for five seconds, pucker your lips tightly and hold for two seconds, and then stretch your lips back into the "cheese" position. Repeat this every day for approximately 15 minutes.

The most important thing you can do for lip lines is to change your lifestyle. For example, you should quit smoking if you are a smoker, and use sunscreen on your lips.
